2 Days in Seattle
Day 1: First day in Seattle I arrived with my partner at 11 am and the cold air outside the terminal hit us immediately. I hadn't been to Seattle since I was a little girl and I was excited to visit my partners cousins and my aunt and uncle. After changing into warmer clothes in the airport bathroom we hopped into his cousin Dylan's car and went on our way. First stop was Dutch Bros and I was very impressed with my hot chocolate and now understand the hype. I too will be driving to Irvine to drink more when I return. After a nice drink to warm us up we stopped at Blazing Bagels and I had a delicious breakfast sandwich while my partner had a very long breakfast sausage wrapped in a pastry dough. We were stuffed. Belly's full we headed to check out the Needle. Just go up cost well over $50 so we enjoyed our view from the park down below across from the Armory. A large building filled with different restaurants, a wonderful snow village and an awesome children's museum. Afterwards we had the privilege of going to the Amazon Spheres with another cousin that works for the company. The moment you step inside the humidity just hits you, and I felt like I was back in Texas. The amount of plant life was just incredible. It envelops you. Literally you can walk through the plants on paths and they go all the way up the walls till you get to the skylight. The best place to reach sunlight in Seattle. The entire place is four levels and has different terrariums, aquariums, spots for workers to relax, and a big coffee station. The building itself is round and made entirely out glass. The open concept allows for an abundance of light to help the plants and workers thrive. The community Banana Van right outside offers free bananas to the community on behalf of Jeff Bezos. After stepping back out into the called we headed down the street to a macaron and champagne shop offering a $5 lunch deal of one glass of champagne and one macaron. It was called Lady Yum and I could not recommend it more. With over 20 choices of macaron flavors and multiple bottles of champagne it's the perfect place to spend any afternoon. With a belly full of champagne we headed to the station to get on the Orca and head back to the apartment to rest before heading to my aunt and uncle's house in Capitol Hill. After a wonderful dinner in Capitol Hill we went back to the apartments and met up with Dylan and his boyfriend Nick who took us to a gay bar The Pony. The place was lively and vibrant and the drinks were made quickly, but with a heavy pour. Stumbling into a Uber home everyone agreed that it was a great first day.
Day 2: Waking up with a killer hangover and downing coffee we started the day with pancakes and bacon before heading to Pike Place Market Street. The place was full of people of all walks of life and crowded which is to be expected of a popular tourist destination. We didn't do any shopping but a lot of people watching, and I was shocked by how many people were standing in line at the original Starbucks. It went almost all the way around the block. After going to the market we headed to piers and walked down every single one of them. We walked past the aquarium and down to the dock to take in the breathtaking views of the ocean and the mountains surrounding it. We then headed to The Great Wheel to look at prices. I would say only do it if you're doing the special dinner VIP at night. Otherwise $40 for 3 go arounds it just too much even for a tourist spot. As someone with a big interest in the Titanic we headed down to the Titanic Museum and did the audio tour. The tour took around an hour and a half and went along with photos and artifacts from the ship and the sister ship the Olympic. They also had real set creations like a first class hallway you could walk through and third class bedrooms you could peer into. The museum featured many replicas of parts of the Titanic that were lost and an iceberg set to the exact temperature was the night the ship went down. It's definitely a museum for adults and those willing to sit/stand while listening to an audio tour. My partner went in not knowing anything and by the end was fascinated and wanted to learn more. He was quite happy he tagged along. With minds full of new knowledge we went to the Seattle Beer company back towards Pike Place and had a flight each. If you love exploring new breweries that is a must visit. The pretzels are delicious and they have over 50 varieties of Washington local brews. My personal favorite was actually a guava cider at 8.7% ABV. For dinner we went to Wasabi which has a wonderful happy hour deal, and we ate like royalty while drinking the house sake. I had special hand rolls and potato slices, while my partner ate miso soup and salmon sashimi. We ended the night trying chambongs for the first time at LA Dive where the bartenders were so fun and lively. The next morning we boarded a flight home after listening to a hoa hoa hoa soundtrack on the car ride there to really set the mood of the foggy and rainy city we were leaving behind.
